In 2010, the Health Insurance Marketplace was created by the Affordable Care Act (ACA) also known as Obamacare. Any United States citizen is eligible to apply for health insurance through the Marketplace, and many people will qualify for lowered monthly payments through an advance tax credit. If you don’t qualify for a tax credit, make sure to talk to your Compass insurance agent to help you understand all of your options.
Now more than ever before, enrolling in a healthcare plan can be very affordable due to the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA). ARPA was passed on March 11th, 2021 by President Biden and lowered insurance premiums for most individuals. More people than ever can take advantage of the advance tax credit.
While any US Citizen is eligible to get health insurance on the marketplace, there are specific time periods that you can enroll. Open enrollment is usually from November 15 – December 15th. However, due to the significant impact of Covid-19, the Biden-Harris administration extended the enrollment period from November 15 – January 15, 2022.
If you did not enroll in a healthcare plan during the enrollment period, you can still enroll if you qualify for a special enrollment period. If you do not have a special enrollment period, you enroll in a short-term insurance plan any time of the year. Short-term insurance can cover up to a year in most states.
